Today women did something great. They gathered millions of people worldwide to march in their honor. Together we sent a message to our leaders that we won't stand for our basic human rights being torn away.
Although the event is organized by women and for women, men were invited too. Women also shared this moment with people of color, the LGBT+ community, immigrants, and some good old fashioned Trump hate.
While the event was not intended to be a message towards Trump specifically, some people chose to show their disgust of this treatment towards women during and before the election.
Some may have written off the event as a protest – but they're wrong. This was the most peaceful demonstration I've ever been a part of. I accidentally ran into quite a few people trying to snap the photos below. Even after bumping, stepping on, and sometimes accidentally pushing people, everyone responded with kindness. Not a single window was broken and as far as I know the only police interaction was for a few people who fainted from the thickness of the crowd itself.
Even the police acted with grace, one I saw sported a pink beanie on his head to show support.
At a time when we're all incredibly fearful, there was a sense of relief realizing these strangers were all here for a common purpose. These strangers surround me every day and while today I'm here to fight for women's reproductive rights, I know that they'll support my and my demand for my human rights tomorrow.
This world maybe isn't so corrupt and hateful after all.
Gilbert and I were so inspired that we came home and finished a line of products that had been rattling around in our heads for awhile. It's call the "Fuck the Hate" line. It's available for pre-order today and we'll be officially releasing it mid-February. $1 of every purchase will be donated to Planned Parenthood who not only offers many reproductive services for women, but also STD testing and counseling for the LGBT community – just to name a few.
